The Man In The Hat

LYRICS
From buskin with his dad at a Tamworth tyre shop
To honoured side by side on a mighty Renown Rock
He played the songs of Hank, Buddy and Co
His idol Slim he longed to follow
He’s come a long way from the Blue Devil band
Playing the halls right across this land
Against all odds, he toughed it out
To follow your dreams is what life’s all about
Whoa, the Man in the Hat
The boy from the bush he’s there for us all
Whoa, he’s my inspiration
If I can be like him I'll stand proud and tall
They breed em tough they breed em proud
On the streets of Tamworth there’s a country crowd
They’re all his family that’s what makes him shine
For the man in the hat he's one of a kind
Whoa, the Man in the Hat
The boy from the bush he’s there for us all
Whoa, he’s my inspiration
If I can be like him I'll stand proud and tall
My only wish was to sing for the kids
He helped me same as he always did
From the farmers in drought to the soldiers returned
In the man in the hat the fire burns
Whoa, the Man in the Hat
The boy from the bush he’s there for us all
Whoa, he’s my inspiration
If I can be like him I'll stand proud and tall
If I can be like him I'll stand proud and tall

TURN THIS TO GOLD

LYRICS
Kids don't play on playgrounds anymore,
just hospital corridors
It's gonna be a brighter day
when you come my way
Even if I don't grow old
I'm gonna turn this to Gold
And I want to be the one true
joy in your life
I'm gonna turn this to gold
If I only had one wish
would I wanna take the risk
Would you save the last dance
would I have another chance
And I want to be the one true
joy in your life
I'm gonna turn this to gold
And I want to be the one true
joy in your life
I'm gonna turn this to gold
Cmon cmon cmon
we'll keep on fighting strong
Stand together, for an answer
Let's go let's go let's go go Bright and Bold
So Our Kids Will Grow Old
And I want to be the one true
Joy in your life
I'm gonna turn this to gold
And I want to be the one true
Joy in your life I'm gonna turn this to gold
Yeh

The Story behind the songS
Turn this to Gold was written about childhood cancer. My wish was to write a song about the kids, to sing it with my idol Lee Kernaghan, with all the money raised to go to the kids. It tells the story of how the kids spend their days in hospitals now, that we will fight together for an answer and we will light up everyone's life. Turn things gold is the color of childhood cancer and if we turn the world gold then the government will listen and increase funding for our kids, which is only 4% of the cancer research budget. All the money raised from the song went to Make a Wish who do great things for kids with life threatening illnesses. They helped make my wish come true to meet and sing with Lee Kernaghan.
The Man in the Hat was written while I was going through chemo, as I wanted to write about the story of Lee Kernaghans life. He has done so much for so many people and that is why he is so special to me, as I like to help others too. I wanted the world to hear in a song, how much he does for others. It starts of with him Busking with his Dad (Ray) outside a Tamworth Tyre Shop to honoured side by side on a mighty renown rock (they both received the Roll of Renown award together in Jan 2015, with their plaques together on the rocks, in front of the TRECC). He did it tough before his music career took off and he kept following his dreams. His first band was called the Blue Devil Band. He thinks of all his fans and followers as family, he doesn't like to call them fans. He is definitely my inspiration and if anyone else sang it, you could be sure he was their inspiration too.
